Junior Exams– 21 and 24 November.
Exam time for juniors is an important step in the educational journey towards NCEA. These exams are good practice for Year 11 and formal assessment.
Students should think about putting time aside to draw up a study plan for each of the subject areas that will be assessed – Maths, English, Social Studies and Science.
Exam results are important and will go toward determining the top junior awards at the end of the year when prizegiving takes place. A 90% Grade Point Average earns an academic blue badge which can be attached to a student's Kotuku ladder.
To get the most out of the time between now and 21 November it would be wise to set aside 30 minutes each day to review a specific topic. You can get ideas and inspiration from the Rutherford College Study Site.
Students should have a look at the revision sheets on the study site to make the best use of their time. 20-30 minutes everyday is far more effective than cramming for an extended period of time. Constant reinforcement will allow your brain to remember things the more you repeat the exercises. There is a pool of resources which we encourage you to revisit as part of your preparation for these exams.
A journey of a thousand mile starts with one small step. The first step toward facing up to the challenge that exams present is to complete the study plan. The second step is to visit the Rutherford College Study Site and see what is provided here to help with what and how you study. After that it needs some academic tenacity to do 30 minutes everyday in preparation for the exams.
For our Year 9 students the exam process is good practice and money in the bank in terms of banking experience for the CAA Literacy and Numeracy pre-requisites in 2026. For our Year 10 students it is a chance to gain further confidence and experience in how to handle high stakes exams under time pressure.
New Administration Block - Open for Business
We are pleased to announce that our new administration block is open for business. When coming into the school all visitors should report to the reception area, up the stairs to the front of the building. Attendance is situated at the back of the new block. The attendance office is the first door on the left when you enter the building from the rear. The old administration block is now locked as the renovation into a student services centre will be underway as soon as plans are confirmed.
