Inspiring Future-Ready Entrepreneurs through Circular Thinking
On 2nd April, our Year 11 Commerce students had the exciting opportunity to engage with a guest speaker from The Re-Creators, an organisation dedicated to promoting sustainability through creativity and innovation. This session was more than just a talk—it was a powerful introduction to thinking differently about waste, resources, and business.
As students prepare to head into the holiday break, they have been encouraged to start thinking ahead to their next learning journey in Term Two: AS92029 (1.2) – Price Determination. As part of this assessment, students will form small business groups and design, create, and sell their own products at a Market Day.
What makes this project particularly meaningful is its strong connection to the circular economy. Students are challenged to create products using recycled or repurposed materials, reinforcing the idea that business success and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. This approach not only sparks creativity but also builds awareness of sustainable practices in real-world contexts.
The visit from The Re-Creators highlighted how innovative thinking can transform everyday waste into valuable products. Students were inspired by practical examples and encouraged to reflect on their own role as consumers and future business leaders.
At Rutherford College, our Commerce team is deeply committed to preparing students for a rapidly changing world. By embedding sustainability, entrepreneurship, and community engagement into our programmes, we are equipping our learners with the skills and mindset needed to become socially responsible, future-ready citizens.
We look forward to seeing the creativity, collaboration, and innovation our students will bring to their Market Day in Term Two—and the positive impact they will continue to make within our community.
