The Rutherford Girls Cricket team returned determined to show their resilience!
After losing to Avondale in last year’s final, the Rutherford Girls Cricket team returned determined to show their resilience and challenge their much larger neighbour.
Avondale won the toss and sent Rutherford in to bat, where Isla Clayton anchored the innings with an outstanding half century.
Well supported by Ava Page-Wood, Rutherford were able to set a competitive total.
Rutherford’s bowlers then delivered under pressure. Matilda Foley led the attack with an excellent spell of 4 overs, 12 runs and 2 wickets to earn Player of the Day honor's, while key contributions from Alice Shepherd and Lucy Amundsen kept the match evenly balanced as Avondale pushed towards the target.
With the game on the line, disciplined bowling in the final overs saw Rutherford hold their nerve, with Isla closing out the match to secure a memorable win.
The victory highlighted the team’s growth this season, showing they were able to turn the tables through determination and unity.
Well done Girls!
