The Rutherford wrestling team has been busy the last fortnight.
On May 18th the team competed at the Bay of Plenty Champs in Katikati. Due to an outbreak of acute lethargy in the team only 8 athletes made the trip, but they made their presence felt bringing home plenty of medals.
Particularly impressive were our girls Random and Paikea who dominated their categories. This week we took on Avondale College in a dual meet which finished in a respectable 6 all draw after Rutherford fought back from a 3 - 1 deficit.
Around 40 wrestlers took part in a mix of good spirited dual meet matches and friendlies. There was plenty of vigour and enthusiasm on display and some very competitive matches.
Huge thanks to Claire and the Avondale students who organised their own way to Rutherford.
On Sunday several members will be competing at the Auckland Champs at Dilworth College. Massive thanks to www.steelelectrical.co.nz for supplying the ref and driver to Katikati, plus ex Rutherford student Imran for coaching Avondale and Steve for coaching Rutherford.
Thank you all for your time and effort in making this possible. Thanks also to Sport Waitakere and Autex Industries for their assistance.
