Auckland wrestling champs

Auckland wrestling champs

Rutherford sent its largest team in many years to the Auckland Secondary School wrestling champs last week and came away with plenty of medals, 2nd place overall and top girls team.

The team spirit was fantastic and it was great to see the kids supporting each other during the day. Many of them also stepped up and provided non-comp matches for kids from other schools.

The tournament itself was high quality with 98 entries from 23 schools. Matches ran smoothly due to the efforts of team manager Marissa Ogilvie.

Gold medalists from Rutherford: Stirling Quach, Israel Hall, Paula Lui-Manning, Random Hague-Smith, Connor Steel and Thereza Su’a. Special mention also goes to Lui Joe with a silver and Safwan Chowdhury, bronze who had some spectacular matches.

Again, thanks to Steve Robertson for coaching the team and https://www.steelelectrical.co.nz/  for their ongoing support.
