This signifies a progressive shift in New Zealand’s Secondary Schools’ cricketing landscape. A pilot program; East V West cricket games was launched to scout and nurture cricketing talent by extending opportunities to schools outside the traditional powerhouses. This aimed to broaden the talent pool by identifying promising cricketers from a more diverse range of schools, ensuring that talent from all backgrounds are recognized and nurtured.

The impressive performances by Rutherford College players in both the Colts and Senior games highlight the potential that exists. Colts Game Highlights Three standout players from Rutherford College—Cohen Bell, Matthew Brain, and Jackson Lee—were selected to participate in the Colts match. The game ended in a thrilling finish, with the West team edging out a narrow victory by just three runs.

Cohen Bell’s consistent bowling was helpful, applying pressure on the opposition, while Jackson Lee’s impeccable wicket keeping showed his agility and sharp reflexes. Matthew Brain also contributed significantly. Senior Game Highlights In the senior category, four Rutherford College students were chosen: Henry Ramsey, Eknoor Singh, Ryan Lee, and Aayan Ghoshal.Unfortunately, due to an injury, Aayan had to withdraw prior to the match.

The contest proved to be another nail-biter, with the West team securing a win by two wickets in the 38th over. Eknoor Singh delivered an outstanding bowling performance, achieving match-best figures of 6 for 35. Henry Ramsey showed his all-round capabilities, bowling efficiently and contributing an unbeaten 46 runs. Ryan Lee’s leadership as captain was commendable. His two catches, two stumpings, and a batting performance after early setbacks highlighted his pivotal role in the team’s success.
