It was fantastic to see Rutherford College represented at the Auckland Secondary Schools Waka Ama Regatta. Six of our students competed in the Under-19 W6 250m and 500m races.
Astella D’Souza, Tiara Dixon, Peyton Kay, Katana Renata, Shantel Stratton and Cloe Wilson
The girls started the competition on a high note, convincingly winning their first heat in the U19 W6 500m, setting a strong foundation for the rest of the day. As the regatta progressed, they battled strongly and secured 1st place in the U19 W6 500m Plate Final.
In the 250m event, they continued their impressive performance, advancing to the Championship Semi-Final. Overall, they secured 6th place.
This was an outstanding achievement, as our girls competed against schools with well-established Waka Ama teams.
A special thank you goes to David Renata for dedicating his time to coaching the team on the day and to Whaea Stacey Garland for serving as our staff representative.
Congratulations to our Waka Ama team on a fantastic effort-Rutherford is proud!
