Celebrating Rutherford Day
Today we celebrated Rutherford Day, a special opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate the spirit, history and values of Rutherford College.
We were delighted to welcome Dr Priyanta Ravi, a former Rutherford student, as our guest speaker. Priyanta shared her experiences and reflections with our students, providing an inspiring connection between her time at Rutherford and the journey she has taken since leaving school.
Rutherford Day is an important occasion in our school calendar, reminding us of the achievements of those who have gone before us and encouraging our current students to consider the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead.

Derived Grade Exams for Year 11-13
Senior Derived Grade exams run from September 15th - 22nd. The exam schedule and revision summaries can be found here http://study.rutherford.school.nz
Monday 14th September is designated as a study leave day for Year 11-13 leading into the start of the derived grade exams commencing on Tuesday September 15th.
With parental approval, Year 10 Students taking Year 11 Maths are permitted to take study leave on Thursday 17 September (the day before their exam), on the morning of Friday 18 September.

Key Information
Attendance at all scheduled exams is expected.
If students do not sit or pass their derived grade exams, then no grade is available to submit to NZQA should there be an unforeseen event or illness during the November NCEA exams.
Students must be in full school uniform whenever they are on site.
Students are to return home to study once they have sat their exams.
Catch-up exams will only be provided for valid absences, such as illness or participation in an official school activity.
Digital Format Exams
The majority of exams are digital. Please ensure your child brings a fully charged device to their exams unless they know it is on paper. Charging outlets are not provided during exams. When required, students must also bring their own calculator. Teachers will inform their classes about the format and any required equipment.
Students resitting the Literacy and Numeracy CAAs
All caregivers of students needing to resit the Literacy and Numeracy CAAs have been emailed.
This is the last opportunity for sitting the CAAs in 2026. These are digital format exams so students should bring their charged device to school.
For the Numeracy assessment, students will also need a calculator.
Note: Students who passed the CAA assessments in Term 2 do not need to resit.

Year 10-13 Literacy (Reading) Friday 11 September
Year 11-13 Numeracy Friday 11 September
Year 10 Numeracy Monday 14 September
