“One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.” Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

Course/Option Selection Is Now Open

Course selection for 2027 is now open, and students have until Friday 21 August to make their choices.

This is an important process, as the courses students select are used to build the school timetable for next year. While we will always do our best to accommodate changes, making changes later is not always possible, so we encourage students to take the time now to make thoughtful and well-informed decisions.

Students should consider their interests, strengths, future pathways and any prerequisites they may need for further study or careers. If they are unsure about their choices, they are encouraged to talk with their subject teachers, tutor teachers, Deans and our Careers Team before finalising their selections. The information available on the Study Site is also there to help guide students through the process.

What parents need to know

Parents cannot make course selections on behalf of their child. Students need to log into SchoolBridge and complete their own course selections.

Once your child has submitted their choices, parents will receive an email notification. This is the point at which parents can review and approve the courses their child has selected.

We encourage parents to take the opportunity to discuss course choices with their child and make sure they are comfortable with the pathway they are planning for next year.

Key Date

Course selections close: Friday 21 August

Don't leave it until the last minute. Take the time to explore the learning areas, consider the options available and seek advice from the people who can help. Making good choices now will help set students up for a successful 2027. Students select options via SchoolBridge. Browse the Learning Areas by Clicking on Learning Areas/Option Selection and then on "My courses" when they are ready to select their subjects. Go to the Study Site for more information and resources to help you plan.

Student Trustee Nominations Open 20 August

Have you ever wished students had a stronger voice in the decisions that shape school life? Do you have ideas about how Rutherford College can continue to improve? If so, becoming the Student Trustee on the School Board could be the opportunity you're looking for.

The Student Trustee is the official student voice on the Board, helping to represent the views, ideas, and interests of the student body. As a board member, you'll be involved in discussions about the future of the school, including student achievement, school facilities, strategic planning, finances, policies, and major projects that impact students.

This is a unique leadership opportunity that gives you real influence and valuable experience in governance, decision-making, and advocacy. The Board meets twice each term in the evening.

Who Can Stand?

Any student currently in Years 9–12 can nominate themselves. You don't need someone else to nominate you—simply complete both sections of the nomination form if you're nominating yourself.

  • Nominations Open: 20 August
  • Nominations Close: 26 August
  • Voting Opens: 1 September
