Luv Music is Rutherford’s Annual Music Concert
Luv Music is Rutherford’s annual music concert which showcases the talent and dedication of students from the senior music classes. Luv music is held in the school hall and is split up into two nights, one being for acoustic and classical music while the other showcases rock, grunge and metal. Students perform in a range of ensembles including bands, chamber groups and acapella and spend time in and out of school preparing for weeks with clear focus on musical expression, timing and group communication. A key aspect of Luv Music is that it is assessed as part of the NCEA group performance standard and this requires students to not only build on their ensemble and musical skills but also their confidence in front of a live audience and their musicianship with their peers. Overall, Luv Music is a demonstration of the senior music students' hard work and musical growth and highlights the importance of collaboration in music as well as building confidence as a performer.
Fabian Fabricius, 13MUS
A successful Luv Music for 2026, all student musicians performed extremely well considering the short amount of time they spent preparing in class. It was great to see so many whanau and community come out to support the show over the two nights. Congratulations to all performers, especially the 13MUS class as this will be their final Luv Music. Thank you to Izak Kennedy, Mark Thompson, Isaac Lee Sang, Sandi Perumal & the Cultural Committee as well as Komiti Pasefika for all their assistance in helping us put the show together. Thank you also to Jimmy Egginton for designing an amazing poster for the show! I hope you all continue to “Luv Music” as we head into the month of May, celebrating Te Marama o Puoro o Aotearoa 2026 (NZ Music Month).
