Where can you find careers information?

Come and see us (Mrs Gibson and Mrs McGough) in Careers, D9 (located in D. Block) next to the Student Health Centre, if you need any help or advice.

Check the Rutherford College Careers Education Facebook/Instagram pages and like/follow the pages so you are aware of current events, information etc.

YEAR 13 STUDENTS:

In Term 1 you will have an interview session in the Careers Department during your study time. Slips will be sent out to you on the day of your interview.

In Term 2/3 we will provide assistance with online course enrolments & send out Information regarding financial scholarships (to help fund your study).

 *Sunday 3rd  & Monday 4th  May: Pacific On Campus Experience For Year 13 Pacific students to experience life at the University of Otago. Come to Careers for more info. All expenses paid. Applications close Friday 6th March.

 *Tuesday 19th May: Canterbury University Information Evening (in Auckland) – further details to follow.

  *Friday 22nd May : Waikato University Open Days (Hamilton Campus) – explore study options, take a campus tour, view the Halls of Residence, talk to staff and experience what it is like to be a student at Waikato. https://www.waikato.ac.nz/news-events/events/open-day/

 *Sunday 5th – Thursday 9th July: On Campus Experience Scholarship for Year 13 students of Māori descent to experience learning at the University of Otago. All expenses paid. Come to Careers for more info. Applications close Thursday 2nd April.

 April & July School Holidays

 *Tues 14th – Thurs 16th April, Experience Queenstown Resort College – Attend a few days of jam-packed activities at the Queenstown campus (or the Bay of Islands campus from 18th – 20th April) where you can find out why the college and the tourism industry are so great. https://www.qrc.ac.nz/experience-qrc/

 Do you have your Driver Licence – Learner, Restricted or Full?

 You can be awarded unit standards and gain credits on your Record of Achievement for achieving each stage of your licence while you are at school.
*Learner licence – Standard 2963 – 2 Level 1 credits
*Restricted – Standard 29364 – 4 Level 2 credits
*Full – Standard 29365 – 2 Level 2 credits
Credits from these standards can count towards NCEA.
Bring your licence card to Mrs McGough in Careers to fill out a form.

And remember:

  • Be at the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing.
  • Bring the right equipment and wear the correct uniform.
  • Attendance is crucial and being on time is important. 
  • Have a positive attitude, good behaviour, show respect and be responsible.
