Six Year 13 students and two keen Year 12 students represented our school
On Wednesday the 15th, a group of eight Year 13 Calculus students took part in the annual CalcEX competition. Hosted this year at Mount Albert Grammar School, CalcEX is a well-known secondary school Calculus team event that first launched in 2017. After a hiatus from 2020 to 2024, the competition has returned stronger than ever, now catering to the top Year 13 Maths students from across the motu. This year, over 20 teams participated.
Six Year 13 students and two keen Year 12s represented our school, giving it their all—despite the no-calculator rule! The competition featured 20 challenging questions and ran from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. In the end, our students thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the intense mathematical workout.
As a bonus, participants had the chance to meet the popular YouTuber infinityplusone, and even walked away with a small freebie. We highly recommend CalcEX to any aspiring Calculus students looking for an extra challenge—and a chance to connect with other passionate mathematicians. The teams consisted of the following students: William Chen, Junqi Chen, Ricky Li, Max RobbMarkham, Chau Giang Nguyen, Chia-Chieh Tu, James Wong, William Wilson.
Thank you to Miss Liu and Ms Chan for volunteering to support us and be a marker at the event. Thanks also to Mr Brar for support in putting a Calculus team together, and Mr Tagaloa for registering us for the event. -
