2026 Yr 9/10 Pacifika/Māori Mathex Challenge

2026 Yr 9/10 Pacifika/Māori Mathex Challenge On Tuesday, 5th May, Kaia Cash 10RNI, Cohen Casley 10TCA, Kori Churchill 10TCA, Ben Crutis 10MMS, Avah Ferrucci 9TAH, Riley Grace 10THO, Sam Hennah 9RSA, Aryan Liddell 9MBM, Peyton Matai’a RSA, Sharlott Naicker 10TBR, Khaedon Nootai 10RNI, Sam Richards 9RWO, and Marley Wright 10RCO attended the first of 6 West & Central Math Challenges, with the first being held at St Peters College competing against St Peters College, Waitakere College and Auckland Girls Grammar Schools. 

We took 2 Year 9 and 2 Year 10 teams of 4. We placed 3rd with one of the Year 9 teams and placed 1st & 3rd with both Year 10 teams. 

Yr 9 Experience: “I enjoyed Mathex because it was a great learning experience and helped me make new friends” - Aryan Liddell 9MBM 

“I enjoyed the experience of it . It was cool to see all of the people compete for victory.  It was also a huge bonus that we won. I very much recommend”.- Marley Raukawa Panapa Wright 10RCO 

Yr 10 Experience “Being at Mathex really made me feel more connected to my Culture and Pasifika heritage. Seeing all these people who are similar to me doing a skill that we are all great at was so amazing to see”. - Kori Churchill 10TCA 

“It was a really good experience to see schools around central/west auckland and to interact with them all. Both our teams managed to get on the leaderboard and bring home the win” - Sharlott Naicker 10TBR     

“I enjoyed participating in Mathex as I found it was a valuable experience that might contribute to my future at Rutherford College and beyond that. It was fun and the other participants were great. Both of our teams did amazingly and managed to get onto the podium” - Cohen Casley 10TCA 

“I enjoyed competing in this math competition. It was cool to see all of people participating together” - Ben Curtis 10MMS 

“I enjoyed competing and participating in the competition because it made me feel more connected to my peers and helped me embrace my Culture, Roots, and Origin. It was an overall great experience and I can't wait for the next one” - Riley Grace 10THO
