Media Design School Visit

Media Design School Visit

Media Design School Visit in the CBD

On Monday, 18th August Rutherford Students along with four other schools attended the Media Design School Open Day in the Central Business District, Downtown Auckland City.

This visit was a chance for our rangatahi to step into the future of creativity and innovation at Media Design School, Aotearoa’s most awarded private tertiary provider for Digital and Creative Technology Qualifications across the Asia-Pacific.

We were fortunate to reconnect with Ex-Rutherford College Student Miguel Jones who graduated from Media Design School in 2019 with a Bachelors of Media Design. Miguel is a multidisciplinary designer specialising in Graphic Design, with a keen interest in motion and interactive media. He has transitioned into management roles while continuing to pursue freelance design projects, which lead him to teaching and becoming a Lecturer and imparting his knowledge and passion to future designers.

Below are reflections from students…….

“I really enjoyed how thorough our tour guide was, ensuring we were well educated on any aspect of the school we may participate in, if we were to attend Media Design School in the future. I also enjoyed the drawing workshop they had our group participate in, where we sketched a human skeleton that was propped up in front of us. It helped put it into perspective that this sort of job-line is actually realistic, and we can pursue our artistic hobbies as a career that supports us in our adulthood.”

After going to the Media Design school I learnt more about how University lifestyle truly functions. I also learned more about the art courses provided and how they guide you into the art industry. I really enjoyed this experience and am so grateful to have been given this opportunity.

I really enjoyed the whole experience, we got to see how taking the artistic career path could impact our future, and it also gave us a great look at how the next stage in our education will look like. Super grateful for the trip.

Stepping onto the campus of Media Design School gave me an insight into what this industry has to offer. It was a very enjoyable experience where we toured around campus followed by a presentation on design pathways. We had a look at the sort of works that students have wonderfully created and a fun sketching session in their art room. This offered how there is an incorporation of traditional methods into digital media design. It was a fun day outside of school where we explored the world of Media Design and university life. Thank you to everyone that made this trip possible!

And finally, a special shout out to Tagaloa Samuela the Marketing Manager for Media Design School for organising this event for us.
