Kakehashi: the Japanese language and cultural event in 2025

Kakehashi: the Japanese language and cultural event in 2025

On the 10 of June, we went to Auckland University to attend the Japanese language and cultural event. The trip was so fun and interactive. There were activities and a fun Japanese quiz.

The quiz consisted of fun Japanese facts plus some cool things like a part on pop culture. There was also cool activities that were very cultural to Japan like Wearing a Kimono, A game called red flag white flag with Japanese phrases, A spooky part that resembled 妖怪 (Ghosts & ghouls) where you had to take scary photos.

Ms Chiba led Calligraphy where you wrote with calligraphy brushes on special paper that absorbed water and made the writing disappear once it's dried. There were also Japanese games called Hukuwarai, like one where we matched faces blind folded leading to interesting designs.

At the end of the event, there were prizes for quiz winners and spot prizes, including Pokémon plush toys and gift bags. One of the sponsors was Meiji, a well-known Japanese snack company. Everyone received some of their snacks, along with a goodie bag full of treats like mochi, Koala’s March, and more.

From what I saw, everyone had a great time enjoying the activities, the snacks, and the cultural experiences.
