The Opportunity

Are you a strategic leader with a sharp eye for finance and a passion for operational excellence? Rutherford College is seeking a dedicated and experienced School Executive Officer to join our Senior Leadership Team. This is a pivotal role where you will serve as the engine room of our college, ensuring that our financial, physical, and human resources are managed to the highest standard to support our students' learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

As the Business Manager, you will hold a broad portfolio encompassing the following pillars:

  • Financial Management & Strategy: Lead the preparation of the annual budget, provide monthly financial monitoring and reporting to the Board, and ensure robust internal controls and audit compliance.

  • Human Resources: Provide oversight and management for all non-teaching support staff. This includes recruitment, performance management, and ensuring a positive, professional workplace culture.

  • Property & Facilities Management: Supervise the maintenance and development of the college site. You will oversee property personnel and contractors to ensure a safe, high-quality environment for staff and students and liaise with the Ministry of Education for all property projects. Operational Oversight: Streamline administrative processes and manage the school’s physical assets and procurement contracts to ensure maximum efficiency.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

  • Proven experience in financial planning, budget management, and reporting.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams (Property, HR, and Admin).

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and property maintenance.

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team and the Board.

  • Previous experience in a school or public sector environment is preferable.

Terms for this position is based on the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement - this position sits at Administrative Grade 7, Step 1.
